I believe it can either mean engaged or palpable.. so maybe at 39 week midwife put 4/5th engaged and today they wrote it as 1/5th palpable ? I’m pretty sure they mean the same thing but it’s just two different ways of writing it. That’s how I’d interpret it at least - could be wrong though 🤷♀️😅
Midwives divide your pelvis and the babies head into 5 sections. We use our fingers to test how low the babies head is in your pelvis. It means at 39 weeks, only a little bit of baby’s head was below your pelvic brim, so baby was starting to travel lower but sat quite high still in your bump. Today’s measurement of 1/5 means that the midwife could only feel a tiny bit of baby’s head above the pelvis, meaning baby is very deeply engaged and (hopefully!!) getting ready to come. Xxx
I went from 2/5 to 3/5 from one appointment to the next, and the midwife said that meant baby was more engaged - I guess, as above, it depends whether they are referring to how engaged or how palpable babys head is
In the words of my midwife “imagine your pelvis divided into 5, the lower the number the lower your baby is in your pelvis”
