It depends how warm or cold baby’s room will be as to what tog you need and how many layers baby would wear. There’s lots of guides online about what layers and togs to use for different temps. Not every baby likes being swaddled. We tried with my first and he hated it, so he was in a sleeping bag from early on instead, sometimes a cellular blanket (but he was a summer baby). Sleep suits are just the all in ones that baby wears, you’re likely to need something under (vest) and something on top (bag, swaddle etc- again depending on temp) Pram suit works basically the same way, the layers baby needs under it will be temperature dependent. Typically normal layers they’ve had on at home + maybe a cardigan + the pram suit, hat, etc. I’ve got a couple of pram suits, all it takes is for babe to sick up a little bit and it may need a wash, so more than one can be helpful- although not absolutely necessary.
In terms of how many I’ve been told to go by the wear, wash, spare motto - ie get 3 (one they’ll be wearing, ones in the wash and the other is in the cupboard ready to go in case of blow out lol). Mamas and papas recommended I get the newborn/0-3 2.5 tog sleep bags from Tommee Tippee as they’re a different shape which fits them better than the general 0-6 month sleep bags. I found some on vinted which have never even been used. I’ve got a couple of thick pramsuits from there too.
Thanks so much for all your responses. Still a bit confused on the sleep suit. For example, this has a 2.5tog rating https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc143078446 So do you need a sleep bag too? Sounds like too much to me, but I don’t know anything!!
@Charly You wouldn’t put a sleeping bag on top of that one, a 2.5 togged sleepsuit would replace the sleeping bag.
FTM here too. I have gone for 1 pramsuit just now. Blankets for pram and jumpers and cardigans over vests and baby grows for now. I have 1 0-6 2.5 tog sleeping bag and 3 0-6 swaddles. I do have a picture someone put up yesterday, it might help x
