Sterilising calpol syringe

Do you need to sterilise the calpol syringe? I sterilise bottles/dummy’s and not sure why syringe would be different but the instructions say to wash by hand but doesn’t say how… it also says not to separate the parts so it wouldn’t sterilise properly anyway? Not sure what to do! My little one has got injections tomorrow and trying to prepare!

I didn’t but it didn’t affect her but you do what u think is best for you and your baby x

I just do it in boiling water when I make her bottle x

I sterilise mine in cold water Milton after each use (I use it twice a day with other medicine)

Think there softer plastic maybe? I don’t know. I’d use the cold tabs rather than a hot steriliser if it says not to do it!! I wouldn’t want to change the shape/ damage if and not be able to use it. Knowing me I’d only realise when I go to get it next and need it

Hot soapy water is usually fine for cleaning the syringe, preferably as soon as it has been used. To clean the inside you just fill it up with the soapy water (as if drawing up a dose of meds) and then squirt it out again a few times. I will admit to pulling it apart a couple do times as we managed to get a dog hair inside it and there was no other way it was coming out. Its OK to do occasionally but over time it wears out the seal and so the syringe will start to leak and draw up meds as well.

I pull it apart to wash and sterilise each time… 😳😬🙈
