Changing teat sizes

My LO is almost 12 weeks and using MAM bottles. Just wanted to know when it’s time to change from size 1 teat to size 2. TIA x

I think there are usually guidelines for when to switch. On the box it should say 0m+, 1m+, 3m+, etc!

they say from 2 months change to size 2 but its whenever your baby ready really if he/she is taking longer to finsh the bottle try changing

On the box it’s says 2 months plus for size 2 my LO is 10 weeks old but I’ve kept her on size one because she has reflux but I’m scared if I move up and she drinks it faster she will start being sick again

@Daisy this is what I’m afraid of, not sure whether to trial it out or leave it for a couple weeks x

@Mehek if they are fine Mabey just wait until they start showing signs like getting frustrated, not eating very much ect

I’d focus more on the signs from your baby that they need to change teat size rather than go exactly by the guides cos all babies are different. My little girl didn’t get the hang of size 2 teats until she was 4 Months old and still hasn’t moved up to size 3 and she’s 11 months 😂. I’d say the main signs that you need a faster flow is when baby is falling asleep a lot during feeding from sucking so hard and it’s taking a long time to feed such as half an hour to 45 mins when a feed should typically be about 15 mins or so. Hope that helps xx

How long did you use the size 0 for please? Also using mam bottles for my 3 week old and keen to see when people usually transition x

We used size 2 from birth as advised by the hospital midwife’s xx

My LO is 5 months & only changed to size 2 last month. If they are drinking very slowly, falling asleep or getting fussy on the bottle then I would go up a teat size as they're probably ready 😊 if they cough or dribble milk then you probably need to go down a size x

@Natalie I switched to size 1 as soon as my LO began drinking in the slightly bigger bottles (160ml MAM bottles). I only used 0 whilst she drank in the 130ml bottles x

@Daisy @Mehek same!!! I'm too scared. How long you thinking of waiting. Also how are you controlling the reflux at the moment. Is it small regular feeds? Also are you holding up for 30 mins after every feed, even at night?

Whenever baby is ready. Some never change. If baby seems to start to struggle, fall asleep or get frustrated with feeds then try changing. But any signs if dribbling or choking on the milk then they’re not ready for the faster flow.

So my daughter is 13 weeks, the age for the next size. So I gave it a try and she was gulping it down like she hadn’t ever drank before, and it was kind of concerning. I think you look out for when a baby is frustrated and fussing because the milk isn’t coming out fast enough.

Ive been using size 2 since 5 weeks old coz she was getting annoyed/lazy with size 1. My first was about the same as well.

Whenever they’re ready. We were in size 3 at 3m as she just hated the slower flow.

@Diana I’m holding baby up after her feeds but during the night she rarely finishes her bottles so she is having a smaller feed during the night x
