Stroller bassinet - is it necessary?

We recently purchased the Nuna TRVL stroller + Car seat for our baby that is due in April. We just realized that the stroller is for babies 6+ months, so we will need to put the baby in the car seat for our every day walks. I'm trying to figure out if I should get another bassinet stroller, something simple from Amazon, or maybe I don't need the bassinet at all?

You can’t leave a baby in a car seat for very long (30 mins max until they’re a bit older) so I’d personally get the bassinet

(You could get a carrier/sling, we mostly used that in the early days)

You will need bassinet for sure. Like Lucy said , baby cannot be in the car seat for to long due to the position they are in. Carriers are great but don’t use it to often either as it might cause hips dysplasia.

Honestly. We only used the infant car seat to take baby home and the first few appointments. And then returned it. We got a convertible car seat for 5lbs and up. And have been using it ever since. And then we got a stroller with a bassinet so baby would be able to sleep in it longer and we would still be able to use it once out of the newborn phase and baby was able to sit up. Personally. For us it made more sense. And has saved us an extra expense in the long run.

I bought stroller that’s 3 in 1 stroller bassinet and car seat, I only used the bassinet once honestly I used to car seat until he outgrew it and just used the stroller

If you want a travel stroller, check out the uppababy minu ... you can attach the uppababy bassinet to it and the nuna seat with different attachments. It might be annoying to switch the attachments but at least you'll have the option of bassinet, car seat and stroller with just having one stroller

Agree with the others - you definitely want a bassinet. Is it too late to exchange what you have for the Nuna Mixx or Triv system? I believe both of those are compatible with a Nuna bassinet. Not entirely sure if the Trvl can be adapted for a bassinet.

I used the bassinet until 5 months. Just easier to be able to put the baby in and cover him with a blanket than fight to get a coat / snow suit on as you aren't meant to put them in loose/padded clothing in the car seat. It depends on what kind of journeys you are doing and what you are using it for. Maybe look for second hand ones and replace the mattress? I can imagine a lot of people selling decent second hand ones as they grow out of them so quickly.

Yes!! everyone told me no so I didn’t get one but I ended up buying one after he was born

We find our baby loves the capsule, we use the carrier for walks in the pram. Didn't buy a bassinet because we didn't find it necessary. We make sure our baby isn't in the capsule for more than the recommended amount of time

Honestly, I had the Chicco bravo (no bassinet) and we go on walks every day that are 30+ minutes. You’ll be perfectly fine without it. You can put baby in the car seat or baby wear. We put our son in the stroller around 4 months and just put covers on either side of him and had it at the furthest back setting (if that makes sense?). Long story short, it’s not worth the money for something they’ll use for maybe a couple of months:)

Bassinets are recommended because babies are supposed to be laying fully flat until around the 6 month mark. I don’t know if that stroller lays fully flat but if it does, you might be able to get a newborn insert for it rather than a whole bassinet.

We got the bugaboo dragonfly for this reason- their stroller seat reclines and is suitable from birth without the need of a bassinet.

Depends on your baby’s preference I bought one and used it couple times in 6 months as she hated the basinet Was ok ish once sitting up in stroller She is velcro baby, so carrier from day she was born. 9 months now and still prefers being carried to stroller

Totally depends on your baby! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with waiting for baby and then seeing what they like. Some babes love the carrier. I didn’t want a bassinet but my husband thought it was best to have one. We went back and forth A LOT! The compromise was the Joolz Aer+. Although the stroller does lie flat, we bought the bassinet with it as the pram folds down with the bassinet. Little man loved his bassinet, so was used till 6months. But we converted it to the stroller for holidays from 4months with an insert. We also got car seat adaptors for our maxi cosi car seat so made a little travel system with a stroller which was defo the right decision for me as we are on trains/buses all the time in London. Wouldn’t have coped with a bulky pram.

We only ever had baby in the seat. It reclines further than the car seat, basically flat. We had a newborn insert in it. No need for a bassinet

@Daria what brand did you get. I’m looking at purchasing but there are so many options

I have the Nuna mixx and I am still using the basinet loads baby is now coming up to 6months old, it’s great for walking in the parc, shopping etc if you tend to be outside and go lots of places it’s best to have a basinet as the baby can be in it long periods of time and be comfortable. I also bought a stand for it from Amazon and use it as a day bed, baby naps in it 😊

I would get the bassinet . They can sleep in a bassinet, so if your out, feed baby and they fall asleep, it is safe to just put them down in the bassinet

I have a maxi cosi Lila travel system the stroller seats fully recline to a bassinet and I have been using it up until now, my baby is 14 months. She takes naps in it outside and it has been absolutely vital to me.

I only have used a stroller extension and the car seat extension, I've never used the bassinet. Baby boy moves ways too much and likes to observe the world that the bassinet didn't seem as safe as just the stroller for him. Every baby is different though. I got a travel stroller system that had a bassinet that converts into a traditional stroller attachment.

We have a Nuna Triv Next and the pushchair is suitable for newborns, it fully reclines. Is this not a feature for the Trvl?

@Tobi evenflo pivot, my fave part of the stroller is the bottom i can put whatever size diaper bag I want

I read you aren’t supposed to keep baby in the car seat too long- hence the bassinet. It is annoying to pack and lug it all around although it looks nice 🤣 and can hold more stuff inside. Also, within a few months baby won’t want to lay flat as they’ll want to see the world around them as you stroll.

I wish that I didn’t get a whole travel system, as I only ever used the bassinet once. My little boy was mainly in the car seat as it was just easier. I should have done what you have, or got a stroller and a doona maybe x

Sorry out of topic but did you buy a footmuff for your nuna? If so, what size and where from? Im struggling to find one that would match the measurement as its quite narrow i measured 34cm! 🫠

@Simona hi, mine came with a footmuff, I think a universal one should work 🤞 I only found they sell the numa winter footmuff at john lewis
