Fit to fly certificate/ letter

Hi ladies , I’m planning to travel at 30 weeks of my pregnancy and need a fit to fly letter as it’s a requirement for British airways . Anyone else flew with British airways while pregnant? How did you get the fit to fit please? My midwife is happy to sign but is there a form online or does she have to do the template herself? Please help

Very interested to also hear about this, specially if anyone knows if they are strict with using their own forms or if there’s any standardised certificate that can be used with multiple airlines 🙏

My midwife said for insurance reasons this should be issued by a GP, I think you can request them the same way you request a sick note etc.

My midwife said I needed one for insurance purposes. I went to my GP and they provided me with one but I did have to pay. You will also need some compression socks xx

Midwife provided mine, I just had to have an extra scan to check if everything is fine, but usually if you’re low risk they wouldn’t even need to do that, it’s only valid for a week tho, so texhnically if you’re going away for more then that you will need a new one when flying back, which means finding a clinic in another country and having assessment so they can provide another fit to fly . ☺️

Thank for sharing that @Greta that’s very good to know, had no idea 🙈

@Greta @Leah @Louise Thankyou so much

I have been wondering this too. I want to fly in May when I'm around 18w. I'll have to ask my mw next time I ser her. Xx

I got mine off the GP and when we got to the airline we didn’t even get asked for it but best be safe I think mine cost £30 from the GP xx

As BA crew myself we won’t ask but you might be asked at check in etc…. Also check the country you are flying into as they may have different rules on what week you can fly pregnant. But I got mine through midwife x

I flew with BA at 24 and 26 weeks pregnant. I was actually asked for my fit to fly certificate on the later flight at check in (and also by the internal airline at my destination). It was issued by my obstetrician and basically said I was low risk, no health issues, no indication that I wouldn’t make full term, her details to contact etc

Thankyou so much @Sarah @Lou @Millie . I just called the BA medical clearance team and they said I just need a statement or letter from my midvife/ legal practitioner stating I’m fit to fly with all the details . They don’t have a template and I don’t need to fill the form online

I had to pay privately for one. Everyone nhs i spoke to said the letters dont exist

I’m flying at 29 weeks, but had to pay the GP £60 for a private letter, everywhere seems to be different and when I asked my midwife to sign the letter she said she’s not allowed

@Linnea check with the airlines first because with most airlines you only need it from 28 weeks onward, before it’s fine without unless airlines says different. ☺️

@Greta Good shout, thank you! 😊

@Linnea I was flying a week ago at 27 weeks and I didn’t need any fit to fly notes my midwife said it’s starting from 28 weeks usually all depends on airline but I read online usually they don’t ask until you are 28 weeks pregnant

I Travelled at 33 weeks with easyjet and they didn’t ask me nothing
