I had my IUD coil put in at 8 weeks pp. Nothing compared to contractions or a dilation check! I got it done at the local sexual health clinic because the doctors there are very nice and they do it every single day, meaning they only need about 2 minutes and they won't hurt you. If you go to a GP you will get some nurse or maybe doctor who has done it 4 times in their life before and the last time might be a while ago. I had my first one put in in hospital by a nurse who doesn't do it often and she needed aaaages it was horrible. Go to the GUM clinic! They give you orange juice and chocolate after if you feel faint and make you sit and wait for 15 mins to make sure you're OK. After the 2 mins I didn't feel any pain the same day. But the day after I got bad bad cramping for 5 days. Since then it's been pretty good. Periods are unpredictable but very light and less painful. I had the progesterone only pill for 2 years before my first IUD and can tell you the side effects are a lot better with IUD.
Also I had the first one taken out in the sexual health clinic when I wanted to get pregnant and they literally told me to cough and that was it. Removal is really fine! It's just the insertion and if you've had a baby you'll be absolutely grand ❤️🙏bonus, I got pregnant straight after it was removed and I had had it in for 4 years! The one I have is called mirena
No experience on the coil but the injection was horrible for me, made me feel depressed, lost my libido, took over a year for my periods to come back when I stopped it, so if you’re wanting more kids at any point be aware of that. I don’t seem to get on with any hormonal contraceptions though. I quite liked natural cycles when I tried that but you have to be quite accurate with it to work properly x
