I keep my miosolo nappies in nappy bucket for 2/3 days max and if there is a smell I put a few drops of tea tree essential oil and it does the trick. For on the go a wet bag you can get from Amazon. They are microfibre I think so dry quite quickly?? Use non bio powder and nappy cleanser only on a 40degree long wash. Also have a heater airer xx
Following as also hoping to use cloth nappies soon.
Following. I am considering cloth nappy but my partner isn't so sure yet. I'm wondering how many are needed? At the moment our 3 week old newborn goes through SO MANY nappies every day, I feel I would never have enough. Would you wait until the baby is a little older/bigger to start cloth nappies or not?
Thanks everyone for the tips! A heated airer would be great, I was looking into those recently. I've used a few so far and I'm finding that they are quite bulky, I might have to put her in the next clothes size up. The elastic around the back is making dents in her skin even though they don't feel too tight, I'm hoping that she doesn't find them uncomfortable. I think we both just need to get used to them. Absorbency has been good so far and the fabric is so much more gentle on her skin.
@Flavie My baby is 12 weeks old now and I've just started using them. Initially because she was too small for them, then I just got into the routine of disposables and didn't get round to getting the cloth ones out. I bought a bundle of 20 nappies from marketplace, I'm thinking that should be enough to wash every couple of days, and use disposables in between if needed.
@Rebecca That sounds good. I'll probably give it a go, I'm sick at seeing the amount of waste of disponible nappies and yet they are convenient. Thanks for the advice
@Flavie I convinced my partner when I got Velcro ones (hook & loop) which is super easy for him to put on and take off. As to how many you need, 24 seems to be the golden number, but I chose to have 36 because like you we where going through a lot at this young age and it also means when baby gets older and soils their nappy less frequently then I can do a wash one ever 3days. Right now the washing machine is always on (and I have 36 - baby age 7 weeks and has diarrhoea)
It’s not recommended to soak nappies in between washing. We have 2 large bags from Modern Cloth Nappies - we put dirty nappies in there and wash every 2-3 days as recommended. The whole bag goes into the washing machine, so no need to touch the dirty nappies at all! I always do a rinse wash first, and then a cycle at 60 degrees with washing powder only. Sometimes I chuck some towels or underwear in when I turn on the washing cycle to get this out of the way too. For drying, we have a heated airer. I found this works best with a sheet or something over it to trap the heat. If you’ve got stains, hang the nappies out in the sun (outside when the weather is nice, but inside by the window does the job as well, even on a cloudy day) - the sun bleaches them and gets the stains out (this is advice I’ve read, I haven’t personally done this myself yet). For out and about we have smaller Modern Cloth Nappies bags - they work very well for us.
