Antidepressants

Hello everyone! I have been on a TON of different antidepressants. I took the genesight test and it told me what I could and couldn’t take. I have been taking pristiq which has helped a ton BUT It makes me eat so much and I’m already obese. I stopped taking it cold turkey 4 days ago because no one will listen to me. My doctor says hunger and excessive eating is not a side effect of pristiq but for 4 days I haven’t ate or been hungry near as much. So I know it’s the medicine. I am terrified of not being on medication due to bad thoughts and depression. I have been on medication for over 10 years. I still have some wellibutrin so I’m going to take it in the mean time Until I can see my doctor. Has anyone taken Contrave and it help with weight loss and depression?

Sorry I don't have anti depressant advice. BUT I would be extremely wary of any doctor who ignores you concerns and says "that's can't be a side effect" essentially gaslighted you. Because if you look at those medication warning and side effect pamphlets literally everything can be a possible side effect and everyone responds differently. For example I took zoloft and it caused me to have visual and audible hallucinations at nighttime when going to sleep. My doctor at the time told me I was crazy and that's not possible. And then I got a new doctor and they were like oh well yes if ssris arnt right for your brain chemistry they can cause psychosis. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. So trust your gut and also remember to slowly taper off anti depressants. Going cold turkey can cause more issues with your mental health.

I’m not familiar with that medication. But, I used to be on antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication. It made me worse. The gene test wasn’t something I ever heard of until a few years ago though and I no longer needed meds at that point. If you’re open to it, I would suggest herbal supplements. I had no bad side effects and no withdrawal issues. Also, getting your blood drawn to check vitamin and hormone levels. Sometimes that is a huge contributing factor. For me, if my vitamin D is low - I can feel myself going back into depression. Sorry I don’t really have any advice on those meds. However, I hope you find something that helps you without the negative side effects.

What is the genesight test? Something I can do myself or a blood test? Sorry have never heard of it and I’d be curious of my results as I have been on a zillion different anti-depressants and anti anxiety over the years and I’m still having issues while on them.

It’s a test your doctor has to order It’s just a mouth swab
