I had a really bad experience with the copper coil and a great experience with the implant (Nexplanon) but everyone reacts differently to different types, so one personās experience can be vastly different to yours. Bit of trial and error needed!
@Allie What is the difference between them? X
The copper coil is completely non hormonal while the implant I believe is progesterone only. Theyāre both long term/ multiple years which is good. For me the insertion of the coil was incredibly painful then I had extremely painful cramps + constant bleeding for about 6 months before I begged them to take it out. For me the implant insertion wasnāt bad, just a sting when they did the anesthetic, and the only side effect was no period which was awesome. I do know women who have had the complete opposite experience though!
I had copper coil after my 2nd, it fell out but im still getting it again this time It did make periods worse but not significantly The implant made me bleed for 2 years they kept refusing to give me an appointment to remove it I ended up telling them I was going to remove it myself for them to do it
Iāve had the copper coil prior to getting pregnant and then ended up finding sex really painful when it wasnāt before. After a year of regularly going to the Dr about it, I was seen by Gynae at the local hospital and they found I had scar tissue at the entrance which was causing it. Canāt say it was definitely the coil that caused it but this was before giving birth and with no other trauma to the area, so Iām fairly confident itās been the cause, something maybe happened while it was being inserted.
Has anyone else just not gone back on anything ? I much prefer myself not being on anything. Iām much happier x
@Jolene Yeah Iām probably not this time - just had our last baby so itās husbandās turn. Snip snip āļø!
@Allie donāt blame you x
@Allie this is our plan too xx
I'm back on the mini pill. It's always worked well for me. My periods are really painful and heavy since having children that being on contraception is actually beneficial for me. I haven't had periods at all on the pill previously. I've not heard good things about the coil but then everyone is different. Most artificial contraceptive methods have some side effects.

I had a coil put in last week and had one prior to get pregnant. I bled for about 3 weeks and then didnāt bleed at all. Had some cramping for about 24 hours and then nothing They last for 8 years now too āŗļø
