Maternity Leave

Is anyone confused a bit with submitting maternity leave? I went through my company website and get 12 weeks paid time off. It looks like you have to let them know when the baby is born before it starts. I’m worried about a gap in my paychecks because I can’t afford to miss a week of pay if that makes sense. Thank you!

Every company is different unfortunately and then some states like WA have PFML which will pay you once baby is born a percentage of your wage. My company doesn’t offer paid time off.

Do you have pto to fill that gap? I had to use mine when i went into paid short term disability due to my pregnancy. I ended up giving birth the same week that my disability started.

I encourage you to have a conversation with your HR rep. They should be able to explain the company’s policies and answer questions about maternity leave on the spot.

Mine is similar. IF you go out early, at least for us, it’s pto or short term disability if your doctor signs off on an approvable reason for STD. Talk to your HR or your claim representative through your insurance. I’m crazy and submitted mine in August for a December baby, lol.

Omg yes! I am confused too, but on my end it seems as if I may get it right away but my husband has to wait until the baby is born to get his? I’m not exactly sure.

My husband filled it out (I was an independent contractor at the time) and put the due date and he was born a week early and they just changed the paperwork. It’s the same for his new job. They put the day they are due and will fix it when she’s born.
