Safest contraception?

Hi, I’m 23 and pregnant with my second baby. I know I will be done for good after this one as I have a heath condition that makes pregnancy extremely difficult for me and it’s risky for my health. I just need some advice on contraception as I’ve tried the coil, injection, the pill and none worked for well for me. After speaking to my husband we think that maybe getting a vasectomy Is the best option but I wanted to see if anyone thinks there’s anything safer or better we could do. Thank you !

What were the issues with them before? I’ve only ever tried the pill and now I have an IUD.

Vasectomy might be your best if the hormonal contraceptives don’t work for you and most of the physical/timing ones are not super effective or expensive over time. Currently on 1st baby but after second this is the same discussion I’ll be having with my partner. Though I did try the pill and it took a couple of different ones to find which worked for me. The doses for the different brands do vary and some work better than others. I was on Alesse and having spotting/bleeding for 2/4 weeks a month switched to another (I don’t recall the name) and had no issues with it.

@Nikki copper is non hormonal

I did the nexplanon before and after pregnancy and it has be the best for me. It goes in your arm for 3 years and can be removed whenever.

IUD !

I was on the patch when i did birth control, i loved it! once a week, i didnt have any nasty side effects that were considered "normal"! i did get my tubes taken out after my daughter was born so that i wouldnt have to touch birth control again (i have pcos and it was causing my symptoms to flare sometimes)

I'd say if he is happy to get a vasectomy, get a vasectomy. I've only ever used the combined pill, which some of the side affects aren't great but I've never gotten pregnant on it. If he does get the snip, do use protection for at least the first year. Because that's when it's most likely going to fail if it does fail.

@Monét got super sick while I was on the pill so got told by my doctor that I had to stop it, same with the injection so I’m guessing hormonal contraception wasn’t working for me so I tried the non hormonal coil. Had it on for 8 months and bled every single day of those 8 months so eventually got it removed

Would you ever try an IUD? I’m super sensitive to hormonal birth control as well, but the hormones from the IUD is more centralized in the uterus, rather than throughout your whole body
