I had one previously and ended up having it removed after 12 months due to the irregular periods and mood swings I got. I was fine the first 3 months when the hormone level was higher, but as soon as it dropped, I was getting a period every 3-4 weeks for 2 weeks and was having major mood swings. I stuck it out for a year to see if it would settle but it didn't due to the reduced hormones. I then went on the pill for a bit which settled my mood and periods before going on the coil for 18 months which was the best thing for me due to the consistent hormone level, spotting for 5 days every 3-6 months and way better moods. If you're struggling with the implant, speak to your GP to see what they suggest. Mine suggested the pill alongside the implant but I didn't see the point of being on both so just had it removed and went on the pill until I got the hormonal coil inserted.
It’s interesting because I had the exact opposite experience. I virtually had little to no periods . Maybe one every four months or so in the space of three years. I just decided I wanted a break from contraception when it came to the end of the three year duration
Thank you ladies; I’m definitely going to call my GP and maybe see a different option. It’s working well for me except for that which is really frustrating
Hopefully they can find something that works better for you x
Yes
This happened to me after I had it for about a year, and I put up with having 2 periods a month for about 6 months. But doctors recommend removing it, and my periods returned back to normal after removing it.
