Contraception PP

I just had my first baby a month ago and she’s amazing! I’m 34 y/o and unsure if we’re going to have another as my husband and I go back and forth about it. I worry because of how old I am like maybe I’d rather try sooner than later but idk! I’m coming up to my 6 week appt and unsure if I want to get an IUD (which was my contraception before), go on the pill or?? Like is getting an IUD silly for only a year or two max? I had my last one for a long time so unsure. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated!

Getting an IUD for 1 year whatever amount of time you prefer is totally fine if that’s what works best for you!

I have heard more bad than good things about contraceptives in general. Thankfully I haven’t had to use anything yet.

I’ve had the IUD on and off only to conceive for 15 years since I had my first and conceived this one in 9 months at 35 with diagnosed fertility issues since I was 17. It was the best for me to control my heavy cycles when I’m not TTC.

@Ema interesting! I loved my IUD and think contraceptives are super useful when not trying to have a baby.

@Rebecca thank you!! I appreciate that!

I was on the non hormonal IUD Paragard and got pregnant with my first off of it.. so I always recommend the pill.

Having it for only a year or two isn’t silly if it’s your preferred bc. My personal preference is the nexplanon

We just use condoms & I track my period with an app and don’t have sex around my predicted ovulation date (you’re still early pp so you might not have that option yet)

Just be aware that your body may react differently to contraception now. I went back on the mini pill when my little one was about 6 weeks and it was awful. I'd been on the mini pill for 8 years with no problems before, but it just didn't agree with me that soon after having a baby

I think it depends if you want more kids and when. I loved my IUD but once I came off it for TTC my cycles were erratic and I found it very tricky to work out my fertile window. In hindsight I wish I had come off it sooner and used condoms so I could be more in tune with my cycle.

@Jackie omg wow! That’s what I had for almost 9 years and never had that issue. But good to know!!
