It’s a very long appointment, but it’s a thorough one. They also checked CO2 levels and blood pressure x
@Danielle I hope mines is thorough, r u in Scotland ? X
No, I’m from Derbyshire, and I had heard that some are not, but some are. I hope you get an amazing midwife, as mine is a huge advocate for me, baby’s dad and baby. She’s amazing honestly, I couldn’t praise her highly enough, and I only met her once. I explained how anxious I was, and how I was feeling, considering I was told that I wasn’t able to have children, and she was so reassuring and was happy for me to ask her anything and everything, regardless to how long it took. It seems daunting the first booking appointment, I was told it would be around an hour and a half, but all in all, it took around an hour. xx
Oh and definitely keep a website called ‘bumps’ my midwife told me about it, and you’re able to search medications and they tell you if they’re safe/recommended to use in pregnancy. Xx
Pretty much everything that Danielle said apart from a couple of things that have never been said to me before. At my booking scan they never took any bloods and won’t until the 12 week scan (I have mine tomorrow so that’ll be the first lot of bloods for this pregnancy). I’m over in Fife x
My 12 week scan is tomorrow!! ❤️
@Danielle I’ll be exactly 12 weeks tomorrow, how far will you be?🥰x
@Caitlin I’m the same, bang on! xx
Hi! During mine, there were a lot of questions, for example; family history, medical history, mental health. There were discussions on if we wanted to do the test for downs syndrome and other conditions that can affect a baby. Conversations about how both I (mum) and dad were feeling. Conversations about any previous children. Height and weight checks, urine sample, blood test. Checking for STD’s, vitamin levels etc. Booked me in for my 12 week scan (as I was 10+5 at this point. Spoke to me about what was and wasn’t safe to eat for me and baby. Referrals made for specific things, weight management (I have a BMI over 40), mental health (due to significant family history) and where to contact should I have any concerns prior to 16 weeks, and then we’re to contact after that. Discussions about safe practice in work (as I work in healthcare) and in the car (seatbelt over or under bump, not on top of). What vitamins I was taking, and more folic acid due to deficiency xx
