Progesterone

Hi. I’ve had two recent chemical pregnancies, so I was wondering if progesterone may help if / when I get pregnant next time. To those who’s got progesterone prescribed, what is the “eligibility”, and where can I get it prescribed? GP? EPU? Thank you in advance.

I had an early mc in Jan 2023, chemical in Jan 2024 and early mc in feb 2024. I fell pregnant again in March 2024 and the first thing I did was call my GP to see if they would prescribe me progesterone due to previous losses. They refused and said “it doesn’t help anyway, where have you got this information from?” I was literally at the point of begging them almost in tears saying I couldn’t go through another loss and all they did was put through a request for referral to the recurrent miscarriage clinic (not helpful as my appointment for this came through for March 2025!) I waited to see what happened. Started spotting just shy of 6 weeks so called NHS 111 as this is how my previous losses started and first miscarriage I couldn’t be seen by my EPU without a referral from my gp or nhs 111. Explained everything on the phone to them, they said they would get a gp to call me back shortly. Didn’t receive a call back until 10pm that night and they basically said epu wont see me or scan

Me despite my history and just to wait it out and if bleeding gets heavier to go to a&e. Luckily the spotting subsided after a few days so I booked in for an early scan with window to the womb to check everything was ok and in the right place. Scan showed I was around 5 weeks 6 days but saw heartbeat and confirmed in right place. Called midwife that afternoon to inform them of my pregnancy and to arrange booking appointment. Also advised them of my history and they gave me a direct number for someone at the epu to contact if I have any further bleeding as they should be able to give me an early scan. The day after that I started spotting again so called the direct number given to me, explained everything and finally managed to get progesterone prescribed. I’m now 36+2 and truly believe I would not be this far along without it. The criteria for progesterone is supposed to be a history of losses, current spotting/bleeding and a scan to confirm baby is is viable and in the right place

I was lucky this time as my previous losses all happened before the point where I could get an early scan so without that they wouldn’t prescribe anything anyway. For some people, you do have to put up such a fight to get the help you need and it shouldn’t be this way but stick to your guns if you think it will help you x

I have had 8 miscarriages and the miscarriage clinic prescribed me progesterone pessaries and they have helped with this rainbow 🌈 baby girl as I'm 29+3 but they told me it won't stop miscarriages tho xxx

@mammy to 8 angels 👼 I’m so sorry, that must have been really hard for you! I’m happy for your little girl, I hope your pregnancy is going well.🙏❤️

It has been really heartbreaking and we're so lucky to have another try well I'm in hospital at the moment as I tested positive for going into preterm labour from now until 4 weeks but if she stays in after that then that's a bonus I have had all the meds for her brain and lungs and stuff so if she does come early she is covered xxx

@mammy to 8 angels 👼 I hope it will go well!🙏🙏🙏 Let me know how you are and your little one.☺️ xx

Thankyou darl and I will let you know xxx
