Switching from purely formula to combi feeding

To cut along story short, I had a terrible time after giving birth and struggle with breast feeding. In the middle of one particularly bad night, I decided to make the switch to formula. I now feel like this was perhaps the wrong decision, made in the heat of the moment and really want to include some breast feeding again. It would be great to do this full time, but I don’t want to pressure myself as my MH has not been great. Has anyone else gone through this or similar and have some advice? Baby is 12 days old today, formula fed for the last 7, limited milk supply for started hand expressing today to try and build this up.

I had the same because my LO had a very strong tongue tied so my milk didn’t come and we had to give him formula. Try find breastfeeding support close to you, find a double pump, pump around 8x a day (it is quite impossible so do as much as you can. Nights worked well for me). Go to the breastfeeding cafes and find some support too. You will get there. I am not exclusive BF. But it is working well with the formula. Also gives me a bit pf room to sleep when too tired and husband give the bottle.

Lots of skin to skin and latching baby onto boob when you see feeding cues. Breast feeding is all about supply and demand the more milk baby removes from the breast the more your breasts will create and supply. It will take a lot of cluster feeding and will be intense but it’s doable. Keep well hydrated and eat nutritional food. If you do decide to pump don’t be disheartened by amount you see in pump as baby could be getting lots more as their more efficient than a pump in removing milk from the breast. 🩷

Best time for big let downs is after 5pm my biggest supply is usually is first thing in the morning. It’s all supply and demand and the your breasts are stimulated it will send a signal that you need to produce more. It also takes lot of patience and consistency and avoid stress. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. You got this.
