Has anyone else been told they have GD? Looking for support🤍

I have high blood pressure and now I've been told I have gestational diabetes. I was already struggling in my pregnancy with the stress and anxiety of it all and now I can't stop crying thinking about having to monitor what I eat every second of the day and having to prick myself 4 to 6 times a day. People keep saying "it will all be worth it when you have your baby in your arms" but I'm really struggling with the here and now. I can't imagine having my baby in my arms after experiencing 2 miscarriages. I'm scared about the complications both of my health conditions could have on birth and I just want everything to be okay😭

Focus on the composition of your meals over the individual pieces. Controlling and managing GD and other times of diabetes is about slowing the release of sugars into your system. For example if you have an apple add peanut butter and yogurt to slow the apple being broken down. Fats and proteins slow down the release of sugars into the blood stream as does higher fibre. Increase those element and try to avoid eating naked carbs. After a few weeks you’ll have your staples that work for you and you can have them on repeat ❤️

I was told this two weeks ago. I cut back on EVERYTHING.. put myself on a diabetic diet. Little to no carbs, low sodium, low cholesterol everything. I went back yesterday and got the 3 hour glucose test done and THANKFULLY my tests say I’m in the clear and DO NOT have gestational diabetes! God is good! I was scared too and I did a LOT of praying. I hope this helps.

@LeKenya interesting! I was given a blood sugar testing machine as I couldn't do the usual method of testing due to medication I'm on. I had 4 slightly raised readings so I had to call the diabetes specialist midwives and they told me I have GD. Doesn't sound like they will test me any other way, that's that. I now need to control my blood sugar through diet. I eat pretty healthily already so it's not gonna be too hard from that point of view. Main thing will be reducing carbs and replacing with protein and veg. Glad your test came back all clear in the end though!
