I’m on my second week of being told I have it. I’ve just altered when I take my test as per their instructions. It was always my fasting bloods that was higher. I also work nights so that doesn’t help. But it’s nothing to worry about. The diagnosis will only help not hinder your baby’s growth and health, that’s the way I look at it anyway xx
That’s very true. I’ve had a look at some recipes and to be honest it doesn’t sound all that bad. It’s probably a good thing I have more of a savoury tooth than a sweet one. Although I do love bread and pasta unfortunately!
I was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago. Honestly dont let it stress you out, its totally manageable and as long as they know you have it, you can get the right help. Im 3 years post gastric sleeve so there arent many changes I can make anyway but Ive not found it drastically change my life. Dont feel guilty about having high blood sugar - you may not be able to control it even by changing your diet. My readings are majority ok and then every couple of days I get a high one. My growth scan at 28 weeks was totally fine and Ive got another one in 2 weeks. Even though I eat well I still took the offer of a dietitician appt as it did help me with some things and made me less anxious. Please dont worry its more important that they’ve diagnosed you than anything - a lot of it is out if your control and its really not a big danger as long as you get the additional checks xx
Thank you everyone! Also I found the phone call a little odd. I have a teams calls on Thursday. Not even a face to face so that’s also made me spiral a bit
I got diagnosed about 3 weeks ago at 26 weeks and had a complete meltdown. I found it tough at the start and was a lot to get my head around with figuring out a routine but it does get easier once you figure out what you can tolerate. The consultant, dietician and midwives have all been absolutely lovely and so supportive with advice so it isn't so bad I promise! And the bright side is you get extra special care including scans so for me it's taken away some of that anxiety of not knowing how baby is and is definitely making the last trimester go quicker! The good thing is they've caught it and you'll get the best care from now until giving birth 🥰
Hey! I also found out I have GD today and have a teams call on Thursday morning. I know you are Incognito but I wonder if we are in the same area. Feel free to message me :)
I’ve had it since 16 weeks and of course it can be frustrating at times but working out what you can and can’t tolerate makes such a massive difference. Strawberries & double cream has helped my sweet tooth so much as well aswell as a Freddo lol I’m great with pasta but can’t have any chips as it’ll spike me! It’s trial & error when you first find out, try not to panic too much. GD uk group is amazing on Facebook
Yeah to be honest I’m quite excited to try different things and feel better within myself, I am also a little annoyed it’s just before Christmas lol, but there we go, it is what it is at this point!
Dont worry about xmas you can still enjoy it - dont let it restrict you too much xx
I’ve had it twice now, and at first it does throw you off as it’s a massive change to adapt to diet wise and generally! But just think you’re only having to do less than probably 3 months of it!! First it’s a trial and error with what spikes the levels and what doesn’t! Once you figure that out you’ll be able to avoid the foods that cause spikes usually stuff with sugar and high in carbs! There lots of helpful groups and pages to help with diabetes friendly foods too! X
