Lactose-free and dairy free are different. You might want to try a hypoallergenic formula, which has the milk protein broken down, more or less making the body think it's dairy-free. We use soy based formula and it's all my daughter will tolerate.
@Rachel ive already been to the gp and theyve not been much help. we’ve tried gaviscon and corobel and seen no difference with either of them unfortunately. the gp isnt very concerned due to baby gaining weight fine. my concern is more that im putting him on a milk that he doesn’t need and its upsetting his stomach. he was happy in himself on kendamil comfort but constant reflux
@Savannah im not sure he even needs lactose free thats the issue, as it seems to bd upsetting his stomach more then helping him xx
@Lauren have you tried kendamil comfort, gavison infant and carobel? (All in one feed) . It took us ages to find the right mix. If not i suggest asking GP to prescribe CMPA milk next (you may still have reflux but then you can compare) Completely get the GP issue ours was a nightmare as i had the same issue with him gaining weight. I found this group was 10 times easier as then via GP. Xx
@Rachel i didnt think i could use gaviscon and carobel together as theyre both thickener? but ive used both individually with kendamil comfort and no change so far. how long of trialling things did you see change? i feel like im maybe not trying things long enough to know if they work xx
My baby just had to grow out of reflux unfortunately, but I think it happened around 5 or 6 months when she started rolling onto her stomach herself and spending a lot of time like that (not sure if they were related). The allergy symptoms went away with the right formula but the reflux for us was just a matter of time, hers was bad and she had Sandifer Syndrome from it but when she was older all of that cleared up, hopefully yours is short-term as well. She did try two reflex meds and I actually think they made her worse.
@Lauren so on the guidlines no, but i was under a dietitian and only using a tiny bit so we tried it- nothing else worked We used milk powder, gripe water 1ml, gavison and the small side of a medicine spoon of carobel. (That was our mixture via the hospital) that worked for us. Wasn’t perfect every day but helped. We tried for as long as possible until we knew he was uncomfortable (or no change) i usually noticed within 2 days if something was different. I did track everything like how long it took for him to be sick after, how much he had to feed, wees and dirty nappies, and any other symptoms. Made it easier us to argue our case for support from the doctors and so i could compare as it all just feels the same when you are in the thick of it. If everything is manageable (not perfect) then i would say at least 10 days to 2 weeks. I would say took around 3/4 months to make it the best mixture for my son. You can always call the gp and confirm the mix so you have pro advise xx
CMPA and lactose are different (so confusing at first) but they can say it can take up to 6 weeks but personally i noticed small differences after a few days when i changed milk (Cows milk free). Our worst symptom was reflux and diarrhoea when on kendermil. We swapped to loctose free (no difference) then went to GP and prescribed milk. We still then used infant gaviscon until he was on solid food 3 times a day( 9 months) You can also try corobel- amazing stuff for us as prescription milk was so thin so you could try this first and see if there is any improvement. But if you haven’t i recommend speaking to a GP as we was reffered to a dietitian as myself and my son was really struggling (FTM) and helped to get some more info and support! X
