Gestational diabetes

I'm being referred for the glucose test as baby is measuring very big. Has anyone had to deal with GD in previous pregnancies? What does it entail?

I was diagnosed with it at 16 weeks. I had to test my sugars (they give you a little finger prick kit) first thing in morning, after breakfast, after lunch, after dinner , logging the numbers on the app which links to midwives. In terms of food eveyone is different some people react to some foods whilst some don’t. I switched to whole meal pastas/breads, avoided cereals etc. gestational diabetes website is amazing for some recipes too! It’s an adjustment to life but manageable xx

I know it’s not your question per se, but just to say big baby doesn’t necessarily always mean GD. I had the same in my first pregnancy. My son was measuring very big, had the tests and didn’t have GD. My son was just (and is still!) a big baby. On track for another 97th centile baby and had my GD test today to rule it out. 🤞🏻 xx

I'm the same as Rachel. I had a 28 week growth scan to be told baby is big so had a GD test last week. I got the all clear today - my consultant told me often babies just happily grow well ☺️
