C-section pre op appointment

Just had my pre operative appointment. I thought I was able to drink water only from 6am but have been told no fluids at all from 6am. I have to be at hospital for 7:15, I’m a morning slot as I have gestational diabetes. Has anyone else been told the same before? Just seems a bit odd!

I’m a nurse and NBM times are usually 10pm and 6am. No food from 10pm and only clear fluids until 6am unless told otherwise I was expecting to be first but found out I was third on list so was allowed a small cup of water at 0730 x

I was afternoon when I had my section at start of December but I had a cut off point for food, 7am, and then was only able to drink (actually told to only sip) upto a pint of water and had to stop all fluids by 1130. Having had 2 sections now, one emergency & one elective, I would say you defo don’t want a tummy full of water during the op anyway. I felt so sick during my emergency section, I wouldn’t have wanted a tummy full of water. Pleased to say with my elective that I didn’t experience this at all x

@Tanya thank you. I’ve been told last meal to be by 12am (day of surgery) and no fluids from 6am. So I was thinking I could have a cup of tea at 5.30am but now I’m not sure 😂

I’m morning slot tomorrow and been told no food from midnight tonight but can drink water between midnight and 6am and then only absolutely necessary sips after 6am but practically NBM including water - good luck!!

I’ve got to be there at 7.30am and I’ve been told no food from 2am and in the morning before I get to the hospital I can have a cup of tea or coffee (only with a tiny bit of milk) and/ or a non fizzy carbohydrate drink (like a flat lucozade) this is to make sure I have some sugar in me. I’ve also been told I can sip water up until I go into surgery. I won’t be have a tea and coffee as I can wait till after but unsure if I should have a flat lucozade 🤷‍♀️

I have my app tomorrow morning, so least I have an expectation to be told no water by a certain time, I didnt think water would be off limits, understand the fasting element though x

@Lizzie thank you. I’ve just phoned the team and had the same info! Good luck to you also. I’m nervous but excited!

@Meg it seems every trust has a differ policy 🤷‍♀️ would be so nice to have a cup of tea!! 😂

Yeah it’s so strange. I won’t be eating after my dinner tonight anyways nor will I have a tea or coffee. I will probs sip water but I’m conscious that most trusts are NBM so I’ll do the same. I’m waiting for that tea and toast after. Apparently it’s worth the wait 😂😂 xx

I'm literally in hospital right now waiting to be taken for mines and I'm allowed small sips of water - really hard to not down it though because I'm very thirsty 😂 I was only allowed clear fluids from midnight-6am and haven't been allowed to eat since then either x

Tea is included in clear fluids but no milk I’m not a tea or coffee drinker so can’t imagine what that will taste like

I’m first slot tomorrow too so it’s nothing to eat for me from midnight and nothing to drink after 6am

I had my C-section (spinal) 2 weeks ago and was told only small sips of water were allowed from 2am.
