I’m a nurse and when I was a student I worked at the practice surgery. I was told by the GP that they would never recommend the coil to someone that plans on having children due to the risks of infection & other complications. Just something to maybe consider if you’re planning to have any more children
I’ve had 3 copper coils (non hormonal) due to issues with my mood and have never had any issues. I got my last one removed in June 2023 and fell pregnant in the September x
I’ve heard bad things about it only. Apparently it can move from the womb and be difficult to find it and another lady also said it caused her to have permanent periods on a daily basis. So she isn’t period free at all. Personally don’t recommend after hearing that.
The coil releases a hormone called progestogen, which is a synthetic version of progesterone, so it will probably mess with your natural levels, but won’t be as noticeable. When you get one inserted, it can take up to 6 months for it to fully settle, and in that time, your periods can be erratic, and you can experience loads of different symptoms. For some women it suits them straight away and they don’t even notice it’s there, but for others it can take a while. I am a receptionist in a women’s health unit and tbh I’ve heard more bad things than good, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t be the right thing for you. I also had issues with taking the pill (I have tried both types), so came off it completely, so I know completely how you feel x
