From my understanding, sterilization of bottles is unnecessary unless you have a premature baby. But… medically speaking, if you dry off a bottle with a towel it is no longer sterile. Condensation in the bottle will not hurt the baby. Neither will drying it off, but if you do that, there is no point in sterilizing it to begin with. The couple times I used bottles, I just hand washed them, shook them dry, and filled them up.
Tatia I’m sorry to contradict you but that’s absolutely not the guidance in the UK. Sterilisation is for all babies (NHS says for a year, some relax it earlier, but definitely in the first months of life)
I used to leave the condensation x
Just don't dry them and make the bottles. A few drops of sterile water are perfectly safe.
@Tatia assuming the original poster is using formula this is absolutely not the case.
I place them on a towel and leave them to dry. I dont dry with the towel or anything
It’s fine to leave the condensation
@Caroline Hmm, also don’t know the age, but only recommended for the first few months. Assuming young though.
It’s sterile for 24 hours lovely. Just make sure bottles either stay in the steriliser with lid closed or if they’re put together then do up properly with lid on. When I was a new mum I thought they had to be dry inside too but then read up on it shortly after and realised they dont xx
@Tatia with respect, this is a UK group. The ladies above are offering the current relevant advice to our location. As you are from the US, what you’re saying is incorrect advice here.
@Tatia you’re in a UK based group, the advice you’re giving here isn’t the guidance that should be followed in the UK though. It’s absolutely necessary to sterilise, and not only for the first couple of months whilst baby is young.
@Chloe hmm, I just scrolled through posts. Not sure why it’s showing me UK groups. 🤷🏼♀️ I’ll back out.
You don’t need to dry it. It’s sterile water so just leave it there when you make up her bottle x
