Neither secondary fertility issues we have been trying nearly two years
So have you had the consultation or is this what this appointment is? Sorry just finding out more so I can give you the right info as I’ve been through similar xx
This is what the appointment will be x
The first time I went they explained a plan of action which was first steps to take ovulation induction medication and then they explained the next steps and what I would be eligible for. I also got the prescriptions then too. I've got a new referral coming through again though as we are trying for a second with no luck so far, not sure what they will say to me this time as there's not much I'll be eligible for
So the very first appointment they will talk to you about your cycles see how regular they are, will ask if you’ve got any previous medical history like ovarian cysts etc will also ask about your partner. Now depending on the clinic depends on their next steps, normally what they will do is book you and your husband in for blood tests just to check everything is ok they will also do an AMH blood test on you. Then they will normally ask for a sperm sample of bloods are normal and will usually do a scan on you to check ovaries etc but this will be later down the line. Xxxx
I know I won’t be eligible for ivf but apparently you can still get medicine
@Katie this defo doesn’t sound like the first ever appointment? Very unusual to provide medication when they don’t know much about you your AMH ? Did you not have a phone consultation before this? Xxx
If you’ve gone through all the testing and investigations and still have no answers and then continue to fail trying after like 6 months on the medication you will be eligible for 1 round of IVF xxxx
I had blood test scans and my partner had a sperm analysis through the normal doctor’s but we have a kid together so I don’t think we are eligible for ivf on the nhs
So this isn’t your first consultation then? Xx
It is I just had previous tests at my doctors
Ah ok, well they will probably just go over the results and ask if your tracking ovulation, ask if your taking folic acid and vitamins etc but depending on your answers for that they might just tell you to carry on trying or take some sort of booster for fertility. Yes your right either way having a child you won’t be offered IVF as you can conceive a child xxx
Thank you x
Also I was recently told by a professor that weight plays a huge part in ovulation, having a BMI over 30 can hugely impact that. I had to loose sole weight before I could try again as apparently being overweight can stops eggs being released. I know weight is a very touchy subject so in no way is this personal just sharing knowledge I know xxx

Yeah they'll go through the medication with you and prescribe what they can there and then. Unless you need to lose weight before hand they will prescribe it, no need to wait for another appointment. You don't normally get a referral and consultation without having already done the relevant tests so I assume you've done all you need 😊
@Jasmine with the NHS you don't get a referral or consultation without having done the relevant tests. I had multiple blood tests and scans before my appointment. They diagnosed me with PCOS so they knew I wasn't ovulating and so it was an appointment going through a plan, starting with prescribing medication
@Katie I’ve also just been through all of this, I had my referral, then got a zoom consultation to discuss what they would be doing and getting to know me and my cycle etc then went for testing. But I was referred to a specialist clinic in London so I guess that might be the difference dxx
Is this following miscarriages or for IVF? Xx
