Both!
Xonvea is the only thing that has worked for me, I’m 20 weeks/ almost 21, and still taking them at night as if I don’t I’m violently sick still. They’ve been a lifeline. In my first pregnancy nothing helped, but these wernt an option then x
They wouldn’t give me ondasentron before 12 weeks because of the risk of cleft palate (this is a UK GP), but they do sometimes give it out if really need to! So I’ve been on xonvea for the whole of my pregnancy since 6 weeks, and although I’m not 100% it has helped loads and if I miss a dose I can see the difference. I was on ondansentron around 13weeks - 14 weeks because the sickness was getting too bad, but then I didn’t see much improvement and it just made me extremely constipated which made my sickness worse. It’s really a trial and error, I’d maybe go for xonvea first - I’m on it 3 times a day.
I would ssk for both for sure, and if metaclopramide isn’t helping, I would stop taking it. It’s side effects make things worse for many women, me included
Xonvea works better for me. I tried Ondansetron for a few days (instead of and together with Xonvea) but have now gone back to just Xonvea. Still nauseous but less sick! Hope you find some medication that helps you xx
I was on ondansetron from 8 weeks. It didn’t stop the sickness but it helped x
I would go for xonvea. Was a miracle drug for me this pregnancy, turned HG into morning sickness!! Was able to continue working as normal and life kinda just carried on, polar opposite to my first pregnancy where Ondansetron (combined with chloporsomething and cyclizine) stopped the vomiting but the nausea was unbearable and i couldnt eat or drink anything including water so i was very very ill until 20weeks. Also gave me horrific constipation. No side effects with xonvea and it’s been amazing for me.
They don’t typically prescribe ondansatron in the first trimester due to the slight increased risk of cleft palette. What I found helped was a rotation of 3 different brands for example tablet A then four hours later tablet B then four hours tablet C and so on.. Ignore the spelling but I rotated metroclopramide, cyclizine and ondansatron Plus many many hospital admissions where I was guvens iv fluids and had the antiemetics injected (when my hg was at its worst)
Thanks all this is very helpful. I am going to request for xonvea and see how that goes, just trying to stay out of hospital this time round especially now I have my little boy! X
Im in the US. My hg was from week 6 to the moment I gave birth. I was on a cocktail of them. Diclegus, reglan and zofran. This is the only things that even remotely worked for me. It gave me 2 hours a day where I could function (mind you, my case was extremely severe so if this works for you it will hopefully work a lot better than it did for me) I also got iv infusions twice a week with zofran pushed through the iv. This helped a ton. These are some things you could mention to your doc and see what they say
Ondansentron combined with prescription Benadryl is the only combination that works for my HG when I get pregnant 😭
I found Ondansetron the best for me. It didn’t help fully but did stop me vomiting so frequently. I started at 16 weeks in my first pregnancy after trying a few different ones first. My second pregnancy I got it prescribed as soon as I found I was pregnant so just before 4 weeks.
