Do you still have your period? Nothing is staying inside of your vagina, so just let it run its course and treat it after. But also idk how bad a tampon can smell after 8 hrs. It shouldn’t be that bad 🧐

@Monét my husband says he doesn’t smell anything but I can definitely smell it! Every time I sit down. No I do not have it anymore. The smell started yesterday and I haven’t bled at all today

Are you sure you didn’t leave a previous one up there? I don’t think a tampon would smell that bad and cause yourself to smell after 8 hours. I sleep with them in every cycle

@Monét I mean to each their own. I change mine with every bathroom trip. Right before bed, and right when I wake up. 7-8 hours. I guess if you’re forgetful it could be risky. 🤷🏻♀️
@Alyson the thing is that’s a really long time. And people think TSS is easily avoidable, but wearing it for extended hours is just growing bacteria and it’s something that may be overlooked before you realize it’s too late

@Ana Moore it won’t kill you, but in the off chance that you sleep longer than 4-8 stretches, the risk of bacteria just increases (making TSS more likely)
Give it another day, if still smelly get swabbed for BV
@Monét Living and learning 🥹 I have been using overnight for over 10 years now for 10h average. I don’t bleed much so there is not a smell like she mentioned but I definitely got scared now lol I hate pads though 😭

@Alyson I mean this with so much love girl, you should try a period cup. My mom had gotten hospitalized with toxic shock syndrome from leaving tampons in to long to often, it’s not recommended to leave on in longer than 6 hours max. But cups to me have always felt pretty similar and can be safely worn up to 12 hours! Recommend one for the OP as well if you’re in a situation where you may not be able to change your tampon. No hate, I just don’t want anyone getting hurt if it could be avoided!
I Stan for cups 🫶🏾 but that can smell funky if you leave it in too long and I actually will forget I’m on my period, so don’t forget to clean it every few hours even if it’s not full
I’m not even going to lie. Cups scare me sooo bad. I’ve never used them but something about them just freaks me out. Also I’m not sure if it’s bv. I’ve never had that before
On the packet itself they say a tampon can last about 8hrs max so you didn’t even leave it that much longer than intended so I’m not sure how it made you smell…personally I’m too scared of tss as a teen so I don’t have much experience w tampon use but I know they state 4-8hrs…I use the cup and when that’s emptied in the shower if hubby steps in the bathroom immediately after he can smell it, just the metallic smell of the blood in the air nothing abnormal though. That goes after like 10 or so mins. Period undies for night heavy flow
Could be a sign of bacterial vaginosis there are things you can buy such as canesbalance bv gel.
I’m scared to death of cups. Idk they just freak me out lmfao. A suction cup in your vagina 😟🤣. I never had an issue sleeping with a tampon and knock on wood I never do. I also make sure I wear the correct one for my flow.
Back with an update! The smell is gone! I took a nice apple cider vinegar bath and slept completely naked from the waste down. Idk what that was about but I’m better lol
Put a boric acid suppository up there !! Or do an epsom salt bath it will help clean it all out
