Teething

My 5month old has started teething this week and is really struggling today. We have given her calpol and she’s got plenty of toys to chew on. Avoiding any other medicine is there anything anyone recommends I help her. She’s literally chewing everything including her own hands.

We’re in the exact same boat! First tooth came through a few days ago and she’s teething horribly (5 months today). I know you said avoiding other medicine, but Anbesol gel worked with my first and the Ashton & Parsons powder is helping this baby. Of course they wear off after a bit. The only other thing I’ve thought of is to wet the end of a muslin cloth and stick it in the freezer for her to chew on and make some breast milk popsicles

I use to use dr Talbots tablets, they dissolve right on the tongue & it helps with their gums & also Camilla teething liquid. Personally cold/frozen food or anything of that nature didn't work for us.

I stopped using calpol, doctors highly recommended ibuprofen for kids, it's better and lasts up to 8 hours instead of 4-6hrs. Teething toys and bonjela is really good. And I've even use these ice pops, they're amazing. Daughter loves them and will go through 3 - 5 a day when teething You can put anything in them, pureed food, fruit, sterilised water, breastmilk... anything. I just put sterilised icecubes in them for her to bite on. Spring onions!!! You can freeze them too.

Thank you everyone. I’m going to look into these suggestions. I put a couple of her clean dummies in the fridge today to see what she made of the cold and she seemed to like it. So defo going to get some teethers that I can put in the fridge. We took her out in the car and that helped settle her a bit having a change of scenery and fresh air. She’s now fast asleep after her bottle of daddy whilst this mummy enjoyed a bath. Defo the boost I needed and push to get back into routine to express milk again.
