Potty training, is he ready?

My sone is 18 months and he has shown more interest in the potty. If I say I have to go pee he goes upstairs to the bathroom if I say do you have to go peepee he will say peepee and go upstairs he will never go though. We have a toddler potty in the living room and he will sit on it and flush it he want to read his potty book while sitting on it and will bring me the potty book to just read to him. When I let him roam free he will only have accidents which is ok he’s learning but after he goes he will say uh oh then I put him on the potty. Would you say he’s ready or not quite yet? If so any tricks?

Yes! But not for a 3 day method. Try the tiny potty method by Andrea olson its specifically for younger toddlers around 18 mo. Don't let him roam free to do accidents though as that's teaching him it's OK to pee on the floor which isn't OK. Each time he pees, air lift him to the potty and say pee on the potty and "psss" even if he stops peeing while you airlift him. You could also try him wearing trousers (commando) for nappy/diaper free time rather than bare bum. So then he feels that the trousers get wet and it's not nice and he has more incentive to not pee on the floor.

As someone who’s actually potty trained a child, no, don’t do it. Wait until they are older.

I’ve potty trained 3 children and I strongly believe that readiness is a myth. If you’re going to do it, do it and be consistent. We’ve been doing elimination communication with my daughter since she was a newborn.
