Potty!

I think it’s potty time! My LO has been taking off her diaper, she goes to get the diaper and wipes when she’s poop and she been trying to wipe her self. I’m assuming when she’s peed in the diaper. I already have a potty in the bathroom that she’s always sits on but never naked. Her birthday is coming up and I’ve asked a few people to get underwear! I’m just nervous because my second daughter seemed really for the potty and I got ready with out and brought things and it lasted all of 3 days 🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ Should I start or wait? My two older kids are 12 and 8 so I’m out of touch with potty training

I have 2 older daughters who are 15 and 11 so it's been awhile for me too but both of them were potty trained around this age. My youngest just turned 2 on the 2nd and we've been potty training for 4 days. She's just starting to get our attention and even lead us to the bathroom when she has to go. I would trust your intuition and get everything ready now. At this age it's all about repetition.

It sounds like she’s definitely close! Does she tell you every time she goes? Is she in daycare? Does she tell the teachers when she’s dirty? Before full blown toilet training, you should give her opportunities to actually pee on the toilet with a child’s seat instead of a potty. Even if she’s not successful, that’s the first step. Many children are scared of the toilet and that can become a real challenge. They’re used to feeling it in their diaper when they go and the big open toilet where they can’t feel it scares them. Once she’s comfortable with the toilet, and you think that she can feel it coming vs just knowing after, keep her home for 3 days straight and take off the diaper. But you need to really commit because once the diaper comes off, never put it back on! That’s key, you can’t go back once you’ve started (other than sleep time). So be prepared for accidents and set a timer every 20 minutes or so to remind her to go because children get so caught up in playing they forget

I think if she’s showing signs of readiness and interest it is a great time to start! I read the book “oh crap potty training” it is a quick read and was super helpful and the method worked well for us!
