Maternity leave

Confused about mat leave etc. I get 3 months full pay from my job then 3 months half pay. So hen onto statutory maternity pay. Would that smp be for 6 months? I plan on taking a full year off.

You will be getting SMP from gov up to nine months and after 9 months there won’t be any pay.

SMP payments for 3 months then it’ll be no pay xx

No, SMP only lasts for 39 weeks, so if you take a full year (52 weeks) your last 13 weeks (3 months) are unpaid. Your employer is topping it up for the first 26 weeks. Some employers will spread the enhanced may pay out over the whole 12 months but that would be a conversation to have with your employer’s HR. So you’d have 3 months full pay, 3 months half pay, then 3 months at £184 or whatever SMP is at that point x

I believe that in Apirl 2025 it will be increasing from £184.03 to £187.18 per week too.

SMP starts from the first day of maternity leave. Your company will be topping you up from that, not paying the whole amount. The last 12 weeks are unpaid.

@Hannah it increases every April alongside other benefits
