It says don't use applicator as it could have germs n bacteria on it which could make thrush worse so clean fingers is best way to not add new bacteria into an already infected environment. Group b sounds a million times scarier then it is and the chances of u passing it r so small if the right precautions r put in place, they will also monitor baby for any signs n symptoms of group b for about 24hrs I think because if u did pass it to them symptoms usually show very quickly so they can act fast. With group b u r more prone to vaginal infections and utis and stuff but again not dangerous just a pain in the arse. Also they will probably be a bit more cautious when ur waters break and might want u to come in sooner them other mums because u r ever so slightly prone to an infection if ur waters r broken for more the 12hrs without baby I believe. I hope I answered everything u wanted to no if u have anymore questions worries or concerns message me n I'll do my best xx
@Willow thank you for reply! I’m actually confused because when they told me I’ve tested positive, they said GBS and thrush so I think it may be both? I’ve been looking up GBS and now I’m panicking 😭 I’m 38+3 so baby can come any time and I have the worst luck so just feel like I’ll pass it onto baby and something awful will happen.
Googling is ur worst enemy, this is such a common occurrence. And so many women have GBS and don't even no it as it's not something they standard test for during pregnancy it's only if it's needed. Think about it like this if it was that dangerous n commonly hurt babies they would ask every pregnant women to have a test for it but they don't. It's not 100% guarantee u will pass it n if they know about it then they will give u an iv during labour to make sure u don't, baby will be absolutely fine. See it as a blessing u found out n now ur baby is extra safe xx
If you tested positive then once you are in labor and in hospital they will administer an IV antibiotic in order to prevent potentially passing it to baby.
Worse thing you can do is google it but i did the same and panicked 🙈 I had it, i found out about it around the same time but mine was through a urine sample so they was able to give me a course of oral antibiotics first then i had to be on the drip during labour. I think if it’s found on a swap the oral antibiotics won’t be offered but youl still be put on a drip during labour. They monitored baby for 12 hours after then we was allowed to go. Baby was absolutely fine. About the thrush applicator i’d maybe check with your midwife before doing it? I also had thrush days before giving birth but they didn’t put the applicator in the box they left it out not sure whether it was so i didn’t use it but i just used clean fingers.
It came bk for both or just one and u think there the same? Sorry wording is confusing. If u have tested positive for group b strep there's nothing they can do about it can't treat it before hand and it won't affect ur baby at all whilst they r in there. When u give birth whether that be vaginally or c section alls u have to have is drip with some antibiotics at the time u give birth and that way it can't be passed on to baby so don't worry at all. The pessary will be for the thrush but the thrush and group b have nothing to do with each other group b is symptomless u just coincidentally have 2 problems at the same time. So ur thrush will go n get treated. Group b is kinda like a common cold in the sense it comes and goes it's not something u have forever so even tho u have it now doesn't mean that by the time u give birth ull have it. Because u have tested for it during pregnancy they will either offer another test at 36-38 weeks to see if u still have it or they will just give u antibiotics to be safe
