What’s the best way to say back off to the in-laws?

How do I deal with annoying inlaws? When my husband got home, he brings up seeing his parents again this weekend and we just saw them for the holidays. Even though that was 3 weeks ago, I have been busy! I am not too fond of his parents either and they are suffocating me. I am still trying to get stuff done from 2024, and they keep asking every weekend to see the baby. I keep pushing it off and saying no. What’s the best approach to this? Be firm saying I can only see them 1x a month maybe right now, and I am a first time mom too. I’m trying to get caught up in life and they are a huge inconvenient, chore and distraction right now. What is the best thing to say to my husband and the annoying in laws? I am 4.5 months postpartum by the way

There’s no right or wrong way to handle it. Hubby and I had a lot of trouble with our in-laws because they were overbearing. We tried gently talking to them. Reducing number of visits. Nothing worked and just resulted in them resenting us because they didn’t get the grandparent experience they wanted. It caused so much stress for hubby and I. If I could do it again I’d just be more direct and so no.

I feel that the first year also kind of establishes How they think things are going to be ran with the child. Traditions, trips, expectations etc. I think just being firm for this time and then eventually baby becomes toddler, things become more bearable when they can advocate for themselves a little more. Firm about getting used to your new family and new normal. Both sides, they are now considered extended family and the immediate family is you your partner and your baby.

Thanks for your help but we’ve got this

@Colby Thank you! I’ll take your advice. I have to be more firm. Thankfully it’s early on

@Jocelyn You’re so right! I will take your advice. Thank you for the helpful comment and your words helped me

Send the baby over to theirs with him while you catch up on stuff. Unless you’re breastfeeding ofc
