First week at daycare

Hi all,my kid just started daycare. It has not been great she doesn't stop crying the whole time there. Won't eat, is banging own head against door furniture's etc and is inconsolable. The providers try their best to distract but they haven't been successful. Anyone go thru something similar. I feel I'm breaking my child's heart. She's a calm and friendly person this is the first time ever such tantrums have come out.

I didn't have this experience, my girl didn't react this way, but she did cry for a bit the first few weeks, which is normal. Some strategies we did to help with the transition to daycare: 1) started leaving her with my parents for a few hours and up to a full day like when I go to work. 2) at daycare started with a visit me and her for an hour or more to show her how fun it could be. 3) started leaving her a few hours at daycare without me and increased how long she stayed there. I did this over a few days until she was spending the full day there. 4) give her a stuffed toy from home that she can have at daycare for comfort. If you're able to try this, it might help. If this doesn't help, ask the daycare for advice. As a last resort, maybe try a different daycare if you get into one.

Hey mama, I'm so sorry to hear your LO is having a tough time. The first few weeks at daycare are so hard for the child and parents. But the good news is that it's a temporary phase and it will get better. Like Christina mentioned, I did a gradual transition as well and I feel that helped. I was still on leave so I had the time, we did 2 hours for a week, then added an hour till a full day in the following weeks. I also gave him some comfort toy/blanket which helped. Follow your mom instinct about the daycare, teachers and the environment, don't hesitate to ask questions or call in to check on your LO when you're worried. If you like the daycare and teachers, then it's just an adjustment period, kids are very resilient, they learn to adapt eventually. You got this mama, good luck ❤️
