Midwives

Hi all, has anyone else had troubles with midwives and just appointments in general? I’m really at a loss here. I’m a 22 year old soon to be first time mother and it just feels like I’m not being taken seriously. The first thing that happened was I was told I need to get bloods done to help determine whether my blood type would clash with the baby’s (I’m a negative blood type due to my dad’s genes) and whether I’d need anti d injections but then I get to the appointment for my bloods and they tell me they can’t be done due to me having just turned 27 weeks which I thought okay fair enough. Then they scheduled me in for an anti d injection just in case so they take my bloods to make sure it’s okay for me to have the injection then tell me that the injection will transported in at 9.20 so I’ll be able to have it done then. Then it turns out the midwives didn’t even order it in and I have to wait five hours for it to be transported in. Now fast forward to now I have a midwife appointment today and I ring out of courtesy that I’ll be a bit late because my trains are delayed and I’m trying to sort a lift out from Cardiff to port Talbot instead to make it on time but then the midwife is quite rude to me on the phone and just bluntly says “well I need to be done soon” all while I’m crying panicking because I feel awful about it all already but I just keep apologising saying I’m trying my best to get back as soon as I can but she then just hung up on me. Has anyone else dealt with situations like these before? I’m scared I’m not being taken seriously because I’m a young mother and it’s really gotten to me recently. Any advice is appreciated thank you .💙

I have no idea why bloods couldn’t be done as I had blood group bloods done after 27 weeks? I’ve had similar experiences with midwives and have found that you can’t give up with them you need to keep pushing for what you think you need xx

Bloody hell, I got my bloods done at booking appointment (already knew I was negative), blood test at 16 weeks to determine type of baby and ruled out a few weeks later that no anti-D needed. This just seems all round wildly incompetent, I mean no harm done as a precaution but why it was left so late is baffling! I’m really sorry. You don’t need this agg at all. I’d keep notes and names and if more things happen perhaps contact PALS to not necessarily complain (yet!) but to have it all noted so they can improve the service. And if you have the same midwife every time maybe ask for a new one? People are late! Shit happens! Compassion is free xx

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I had the anti-d injection after my 28-week appt, but they took my blood to determine the baby's type at my 12-week scan (shes positive and im negative). Absolutely stand up for yourself - I have had a separate issue where I didn't feel heard at all because they failed to tell me some basic information which led me to make decisions that I wouldn't have made had they told me. They acted like I was stupid and difficult, and so I had to be *that* person in order for them to listen and take me seriously. Always advocate for yourself! Sending you ❤️🤗

Unfortunately the only way that’s helped me is to put in a formal complaint at the hospital and all of a sudden people have been treating me better and the sister in charge called me to apologise about some of the bad comms and behaviour of the various staff that had impacted my experience

I'd call your triage department and explain and ask to be given a new midwife who's going to support you better
