Midwife appointment

Had my first midwife appointment this week, anyone else feel like it was a bit clinical? Wasn’t even asked how I feel with the pregnancy so for or what my symptoms are and how to help them. Just makes me a bit nervous as it’s my first pregnancy and I wanted some reassurance and comfort. 😣

I definitely felt like this with my first son. I felt like i couldnt ask questions etc and to be honest i barely had any midwife appointments first time round. So i made a promise that this time ill speak up. If you have any questions write them down and make sure you ask them next time. Its their job to help us and so many women leave with more questions than answers xx

I did with my son but this time I felt really looked after my appointment was about 2 and half hours but I am high risk so there was lots of questions, I had my son 9 weeks premature.

Sorry you felt like this. My experience was the opposite with my first (haven’t had an appointment for this one yet) Very welcoming, asking me if I had any concerns or questions, I really hope your experience improves!

I think it depends on your hospital. Mine are amazing for maternity and really look after you. I was sat down and spoke to for one hour and they even gave me all the relevant vitamins needed etc

Interesting 🤔 just wish it felt a bit more welcoming and supportive

@Robyn what hospital are you having your baby at? Xx

@Tomer bless you! I've heard that most places are really unbothered and rush you in and out which is so sad.

@Peri Dawn I'm at Whipps cross in east London, I had my first baby here too and had a very positive experience! X

@Robyn in trying to decide between stoke hospital and Queen Charlotte and Chelsea

Felt like this with my first, but once you meet your actual midwife and have your regular appointments with her you won’t feel like that anymore, but that does happen quite late. I felt really alone and like we’d just been left to crack on but now I expect it xxx

@Peri Dawn try to research between the both and which is better for maternity. Of course every trust has pros and cons and everyone has different experiences x

I felt the same. All nurses-midwives were very nice and welcoming, but only after the appointment I realised I haven’t asked any of the questions that bothered me. I knew it was more for paperwork and questionnaires, but didn’t expect it to be such a soulless appointment.
