How were you diagnosed. Was it after having a baby?

3 months after having my first. I suddenly developed a huge, visible lump in my throat. Had an emergency ultrasound (i was 28, my father died of throat cancer at 30, so everyone was a bit scared, reacted very quickly!) That returned nothing worrying, simply "a severely enlarged thyroid" Then had blood work which concluded hypothyroidism. My TSH was 129 😅🫣 My GP asked if i had been feeling ok... "You haven't lost loads of weight, feel very tired, unwell in general?" Yes of course, i was 3m postpartum! Took another year to get the Hashimotos diagnosis.

@Kirsty I’ve been diagnosed with underactive thyroid, I would say it was about 5 months after my 2nd child was born. Turns out I’ve had it since my 1st was born and he is 11 this year. X What is hashimoto? Are you on medication

I imagine my hypothyroidism started a while before i was diagnosed. Pregnancy can really just tip it over the edge. Hashimotos is an autoimmune condition where the body makes antibodies that specifically attack your thyroid. I believe most younger women who have hypothyroidism have it because they have hashimotos. Yes, i am medicated, i take Levothyroxin every day
