Do you change your child’s clothes when they come home from nursery?

LO has only been in pre school 3 months but has caught countless colds and coughs, throat infections, a severe chest infection which almost landed us in hospital at Christmas, a bad vomiting bug (which spread to us all) and hand foot and mouth. I know it probably won’t make much of a difference but I’m going to start changing his clothes when he gets home and giving his face and hands a wash. Does anyone else do this? Or am I being too dramatic? Not to mention he’s always pretty mucky anyway probably be best to change him

I was wondering about this. My son has been sick once a month since starting kids care at the gym. And that’s only for an hour a couple times a week.

@Jessie ah bless you! I’m not sure if it’ll make a difference but I think I’m going to start trying, what’s one extra outfit of washing anyways if it means less bugs!

Same clothes to play and eat dinner, and I bathe them and they’ll get change into a new pair of pyjamas.

I’ve never changed my daughter after nursery. She is very very rarely ill, I think it’s part luck and part exposure.

I wash his hands and face when we come home from anywhere, we sit downstairs have our dinner and then upstairs I change him into pjs. I don’t allow outside clothes on the bed, the sofa downstairs is leather so I deep clean it every week. Not to say they didn’t get unwell, they did but it gives me peace of mind that I’ve done what I could x

Don’t change clothes when home from nursery but do make my kids wash their hands every time we come home regardless of where we’ve been like nursery/park/car/walk/garden/play date/etc. I found the first few months of starting nursery are the worst as all the bugs and lurgies come home!

I don’t because he is only in for an hour before it’s time to get in the bath and into pyjamas. X

I don’t, he’ll go in bad and to bed within an hour or so of coming home. But even if he didn’t I would not change him. He’s also hardly ever gotten ill at nursery.

When I worked in childcare first thing I did when walking in the door was Clorox my keys, phone, and cup plus stripped and changed all my clothes. I didn’t avoid everything but I did avoid a lot!

Yes 100%

My son isn’t in daycare but we take outside clothes off as soon as we get back in the house. He’s a toddler and throws himself on the floor and rolls around I would be stressed out having those nasty clothes rubbing around my house. When he does start daycare he will be stripped immediately after too. Kids cough sneeze and rub boogies all over those places, no thanks!

Thank you everyone! Really helpful to know everyone’s opinions! We finish nursery at 3pm and he’s not in bed until 7pm usually so that’s 4 hours of him running around on sofa etc in dirty clothes but il give changing him a go and see how it goes!
