NT measure 2.4mm confusion

Hi I had my screening and they measured NT at 2.4mm and baby looked fine moving around no concerns but I’ve come back with 1 in 31 chance of downs Does anyone know what could have triggered this? I’ve had my bloods done for Nipt but waiting to hear back I have so much anxiety over it I’m 13+4 but was 12+5 at time of scan and I’m 30 years old

It’s not just the NT they look at, it’s also your HCG levels and Papp-A levels (along with other factors such as your age and if you smoke). It’s basically an algorithm so is highly inaccurate whereas the NIPT actually uses science so will provide a bit more clarity. I know exactly how you feel though - I left my 12 week scan on cloud 9 as they said everything looked fine and then had the phone call a few days later about by downs results. It really does hit you like a tonne of bricks. Sending you positive thoughts 💕

@Jemma thank you for responding Yes it was such a shock after a few miscarriages and being treated for fertility for years it was honestly the last thing I thought about happening!! What happened in the end for you? Did you have the NIPT bloods done? Xx

Yes I had NIPT after a 1/77 result for downs. Results came back 6 days later and was low risk.

Try not to stress, like Jemma said they take other factors into consideration. The NIPT results will give you a better idea, my little boys fluid measured 6.6mm and I tested high on NIPT but went ahead with an amnio at 16 weeks because it wasn't definitive enough for me.

I had a CVS done and the full microarray rather than a NIPT as that only gives low/high chance. The CVS/amnio gives definite results. It depends what you need from a test for me i needed definite answers as I was a nervous wreck. Mine was 1 in 35 for downs and 1 in 10 for other abnormalities. All my tests came back clear and i am almost 27 weeks. I am having councelling at the moment as all the tests etc caused me PTSD. It's only now i am starting to feel quite excited and have bonded with baby. I wouldn't wish those feelings on amyone so my heart goes out to you. It's the not knowing thats the worst. I got referred to fetal medicine and they was very indepth and very supportive. Pop me a message if you want to chat xx

@Heather have you received your results? 🙏

Hi there! I did my 12 weeks screening tests this week, everything looked good from scan but from blood tests it came back higher risk for DS (1/37). I was in shock. Today I’m going to get the blood tests for the NIPT and I’m already stressed how I am going to cope waiting for the results 🙁

Hi, not sure if you’ve had any further results, but thought I’d share my story to try and offer reassurance. Nuchal fluid was increased at 12 week scan. That combined with all the other factors gave me a 1:2 chance of all 3 syndromes. Not just one of them. Sent me spiralling. Opted for the CVS as we were under feral medicine who were incredible. All came back clear! Currently 34 weeks 💚 good luck x

I’m so happy for you! I wish you all the best 💚 Thank you for sharing your story! It does help!!

@Alessandra please keep us updated, good luck x

My results came back for my NIPT and they were low risk!! We were so so relieved xxx

That's brilliant x

@Heather wonderful news x

Thank you ladies and thank you for your support xx
