Incontinence pants - for post birth bleeding

Does anyone know how many pads/pants we’ll need post-birth? Like how many days does the bleeding last? I was hoping to use reusable period underwear. But thinking maybe I’m gonna have to buy Always Incontinence Pants as I only have 3 or 4 pairs of period pants.

Everyone is different but at least a few weeks from experience. I got the boots maternity disposable briefs for the first few days and plan to put a postpartum or incontinence pad on top.

It’s so varied! Some women have heavy bleeding, some light. Generally though it’s for several weeks rather than days. Again a large variance and you may even find it’s on/off. I had a couple of days of more like period bleeding (maybe call it a week) but then had several weeks of on/off bleeds and spotting. Was wearing a liner in the end as was light. Actually for me all of the bleeding outside of the first few days was much lighter than expected. I used a mix of maternity pads and the always disposable briefs. I didn’t need loads but probably due to the lighter flow but you do want to change them regularly. I’m getting 2 packs of the Always ones and 2 packs of maternity pads and then will just order more as needed or may be happy to back in regular pads/liners.

It all depends on your really, I got a pack of 8 of the boots stay dry underwear with a built in pad and 2 packs of maternity pads I’ll use after in normal knickers. I’m hoping this will be enough but you can always buy more if needed x

Weeks more than days. I can't remember exactly as the newborn days are a blur but 3 weeks minimum for me but I think longer. I also wanted to use reusable options but it wasn't possible until the very end up the bleeding for me as I really needed the cushioned support of maternity pads. The bleeding was quite heavy too so I had to change pads very regularly, like no more than 3 hours per pad. I got through a lot more than expected. I used the natracare maternity pads last time which are plastic free so somewhat a compromise.

Aha weeks for me…It’s like getting 9 months of periods back to back until it’s all gone 😅 It starts super heavy and I changed frequently (and leaked so get some puppy pads in to save your sheets perhaps!) but tapers off after a while. Normal to see clots too in the early days PP but anything 50p size or less roughly is normal and doesn’t need to be checked generally. I just got the Tesco maternity pads as they were cheapest. I can safely say period knickers won’t be enough at least in the first week or so. I then combi fed and didn’t get a period until I’d stopped feeding at 15 month PP which was very helpful!

Thanks everyone, I better get to the shops. I’m woefully unprepared 😂

Of course at the start more heavy bleeding and then it dies down a bit but still there. For me at least 5 weeks where I needed pads.

Boots maternity pads (as many as you can tbh, you can always keep them for future periods if you have too many) and any incontinence pads from Amazon are great, but honestly more is always better. Bleeding can last up to 6 weeks I think. I only had it for like 2-3 weeks though with my first and then just spotting now and then, everyone is different
