We had a growth scan this week and baby is measuring at 19th percentile. Although, mine is all in line with our 20th week scan and we were always going to have a small baby (I'm 5ft nothing and husband 5'7). X
I have a small baby too… and last scan was Tuesday and also 12th centile. The thing is anything between 1st-100th centile is a variation of normal/healthy. 12th centile just means 88 babies would be born bigger than yours and 11 smaller at that gestation. We all come in different shapes and sizes and it’s not necessarily indicative of growth pattern once born. It’s hard not to compare but as long as baby is growing that’s the main thing. The biggest concern is placenta function but they will of checked blood flow from that to baby and should keep monitored. My recent scans have been 9th centile, up to 17th centile and then down to 12 centile. But 17-12 isn’t really considered a drop even though less because it’s in the same bracket/curve (10-25) and baby is growing. Most likely just a small baby and nothing more than that. Some discussion to induce early (39-40 weeks) which I have mixed thoughts on. Also trying for a vbac. Continued…
Scans also have a degree of error and the weight estimate is notoriously inaccurate so would try to disregard the specific weight estimate. My 20 week scan estimate was 63rd centile so quite a drop. And the tummy measurement is smallest which is the one to watch in particular as it’s where the placenta enters. My last pregnancy wasn’t quite this small but also small and it was my girls head bringing it down as that always measured around 5th centile. They said head was less accurate but was also monitored and all they wanted to see was that is was growing. She was born 15 days overdue at 3.5kg, always been around 25th centile and head started a little small but noticeably so and at 18 months she’s very healthy/normal and in proportion. So I’m trying not to worry too much as long as baby is growing and being monitored.
Ok Thankyou for your comments girls, this is really reassuring and yes as long as the placenta is doing its thing which it is as there are no concerns then that’s priority. Luckily my placenta is positioned anterior high so shouldn’t have an impact labour. I suppose you just have these fears when it’s your first baby and you get a new sonogrpaher that doesn’t have the best tone or approach on your results. Blood flow seemed to be all good as well.
I had a scan on Friday at 35+2 and baby is weighing around 5lb 5oz, she’s plotting on my grow chart a little below 50th percentile, have another scan on Wednesday too x
