Reusable nappy help!!

We currently use reusable wipes and we absolutely love them. I’m trying to also integrate reasonable nappies, but I just can’t seem to get the hang of them. Any advice would be great. I find that the reusable nappies soak through very easily and our LO’s clothes end up being damp after a short amount of time. I have extra inserts but it makes the nappy so bulky and she looks ridiculous! 😂😂 How often are people changing reusable nappies? And are you changing the entire nappy every time or just the inserts? Any help or advice would be great! Thank you x

Reusable need to be changed every 2-3hrs. Are you using fabric softener on them? That coats the fibres and repels water instead of absorbing. Are they new? Bamboo needs 4-6 washes to reach max absorbency, hemp needs 8-10 washes. Does the inserts have microfibre in them? Microfibre can cause compression leaks. Try to look for 6 layer fully bamboo inserts, and hemp boosters. No fabric softener, wash them more if new, and try to stay away from microfibre. Most generic brand nappies (Alva, Nora’s nursery, Mama Koala) inserts only 4 layers usually and the 2 outer layers are mf (so really, only 2 layers of bamboo) I had to buy more 6 layer fully bamboo inserts than the ones they come with. Cotton prefolds are also amazing inserts. I ended up buying a lot of prefolds too. I folded into 3 and put into the pocket

@Kellie thank you!!! 🙏🏽 amazing advice x

The Nappy Lady website has lots of really helpful information about reusable nappies. The only thing I'd say is ignore their washing advice completely, it's nonsense and won't get your nappies properly clean. Instead, have a look at Clean Cloth Nappies
