I’m ready to Switch to bottle feeding, but I’m a bit nervous as to which milk or formula to use as she has eczema and flares up whenever I consume dairy.. so it’s completely cut out my diet .. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS on milk or formula to use.. or should I just pump & freeze then use in bottle HELP?!

I pump and then freeze for baby later on so if I’m away my partner can still feed him and it’s worked a treat. Atleast I know that he won’t have a bad reaction and that can tolerate it instead of trying several different types of formula to find one that fits. Plus my baby was on formula when he was born as he was a premie and my milk hadn’t come in and he hated the taste 😂x

Thanks @Erica im gonna try pumping & freezing then.

If you do decide to try formula, similac alimentum was good for my son. He used to get really bad reactions from dairy so we switched him to that and now he’s totally healthy. It’s definitely pricey though so I would ask your pediatrician for a prescription

I switched over to formula at 3 months. I use kendamill organic. For the first 2 weeks I mixed formula and expressed breast milk together so it’s better on baby’s stomach and they can adjust to the difference in taste. So in one bottle I’d put 2oz of breast milk with 2oz of formula x

The doctors more than likely will give you dairy free formula if you tell them baby’s symptoms! I EBF too and same thing here wanted to switch but thought baby had an allergy so they gave me SMA formula (baby wouldn’t take to it whatsoever so I am still EBF but they should give it to you if you want it!) X

If your baby has a dairy allergy then you will definitely need to get your GP to prescribe an allergy formula. And because your LO is reacting to dairy through your breast milk then they will possibly need an amino acid formula rather than a hydrolysed formula. A lot of babies with dairy allergy (CMPA) don’t react to dairy in their mums breast milk as it’s broken down and very little dairy gets through so the allergy is only discovered during weaning. However, if your baby is reacting then they are maybe very sensitive to the dairy proteins. A hydrolysed formula still has milk proteins in it but they are broken down to be easier absorbed. Some allergy babies can tolerate this. An amino acid formula is one that is completely dairy free. GPs will usually want to trial a hydrolysed formula for a few weeks first as it’s much cheaper than the amino acid formula.

Heads up, when starting formula, go slowly. I was told to start with only one feed a day and then work your way in. Otherwise you can have a super constipated baby. And cuz they’re only 4 months they can’t have water yet or prunes to lessen the constipation
