Most businesses and schools will offer some enhanced maternity pay but how much they pay and for how long varies widely. There are also conditions attached to it usually, e.g: often having to have worked there for six months or a year first
Ah okay. And am I right to beleive that the payment is only for 9 months of maternity, but we can take an extra 3 months unpaid? Or does the enhanced maternity of mean we can be paid for the full 12 months?
Some organisations will give enhanced maternity pay for more than nine months. It's the statutory pay that definitely ends after nine months. But if you work in a state school you'll get enhanced pay for far less than nine months! And yes, you're entitled to take up to a year off, regardless of how long you get maternity pay for.
Thanks so much for the help. Just trying to plan financially for it. May need to do some exam marking or tuition for part of the year off. Is that allowed? I’ve crunched some of the numbers I’m seeing online, and even best case scenario seems like it would be very stretched.
I'm not sure of the regulations around exam marking and tuition whilst on maternity leave. Others here might know more about that. Personally I'd just never have managed it as I was too all over the place with my little one!
Statutory is government basic and enhanced is what your company put on top basically. I think all businesses have both but it's thr enhanced policy that changes from company to company
