Broomfield

Has anyone else been disappointed with maternity care at Broomfield? I haven’t had a midwife appt since 16 weeks (22 now) and my next one isn’t until 35 weeks. They just don’t seem to be bothered!! Don’t have any of my growth scan appts, or a consultant appt I’m supposed to have at 28 weeks. Had my first boy at Basildon, and starting to think I’ve made the wrong choice choosing Broomfield!

I had my son at Broomfield in August and I was about the same as you in terms of missed appointments, and when I contacted them about it I was blamed because I apparently didn’t ask for an appointment?! My consultant appointments were also hit and miss and had two different consultants tell me two different things (one said I couldn’t be induced because of a heart condition but another was adamant that I could!). I’m disappointed that I chose Broomfield if I’m honest and if I have another baby I’d go elsewhere. Hope it all gets sorted for you xx

I’ve been quite happy with Broomfield so far. My midwife appointments are all at the midwife centre in Chelmsford and I’ve got all my next appointments booked (26 weeks is my next). This is my first and I’m low risk…

I had my 16 week appointment this week (I’m 18 weeks but that was because I couldn’t make the prior weeks). She booked in all of my appointments which are relatively regular (the next isn’t for 8 weeks though but that’s normal) at the appointment. Perhaps give them a call to see if you should be getting more or if they’re getting booked in? This is my first so can only comment on the care I’ve had up until now. Hope it gets sorted for you x

I saw midwives at the hub in town, had to make sure I booked them in myself at the front desk based off the list on the wall. Think I have a picture on my phone if you'd like me to post it? Consultants were booked in same day as my scans at the hospital- but most of the time the consultants didn't know why they were seeing me, never saw the same one twice, and they all said different things. So I think my only complaint would be the consultants. X

I guess this just shows everyone’s experience is different - I’m high risk (BMI, gestational diabetes - same as my first), and when I was at Basildon I was monitored closely and contacted regularly. This time around it genuinely feels like they’re not bothered. I’m waiting to hear back from the Chelmsford midwife centre, but not holding out much hope to be honest as this wouldn’t be the first time they’ve failed to get back to me. Just feeling disappointed, and seriously considering if I should switch hospitals!

@Alison when I had my 16 week appt she told me I wouldn’t need another one till 32 weeks, and then proceeded to book me in for nearly 35 weeks. So confused!

I was also seen due to bmi, but no gestational diabetes like yourself. I was seen every fortnight (which felt excessive even at the time, just because I'm chubby lol). So it's bizarre you have GB and they're seeing you less?? Odd. I do know how overwhelmed they are down at that centre though so it sounds like that's still the case. X

This is my first and I can only comment on my own experience, but I see the same midwife at the hub in town since my first appointment, she booked in all my appointments at 16 week appointment up until 38 (I’m 37+2). I have been up to broomfield a few times with reduced movements and suspected pre term and I can’t fault the care at all apart from being a little slow when doing their rounds when I had to stay overnight. I would recommend speaking with your midwife maybe but hopefully you’ll get it sorted

I was under the hospital midwives for my first and under the hub midwives for my 2nd. Both I had to book my appointments at the desk on the way out. In your maternity notes there is a page that states when abouts you have your appointments/scans etc and then book according to this at the desk after each appointment. I think there a specific page for diabetics if I remember correctly?? . I had to chase up my 36 week scan though as it hadn't been booked and another time they booked one of my growth scans for a different date to which they were supposed to.

@Clara when I went for my 16 week she said I was not due to have another one till 32 weeks, which was booked at the time (she booked it for when I’m going to be 34+6 though!). I did call them today and they admitted that that is wrong and I should be having other appts, so there must have been a break in communication somewhere. I still haven’t heard back from them though, and I just feel like they don’t seem to be bothered. Felt like I had much better care with my first under Basildon, so now I’m considering switching! Disappointed as I’d heard good things about Broomfield

I was happy with Broomfield I gave birth back in September 2024 I had to book my next appointment after each one the nurses always reminded me. X
