Scan

What exactly happens at the anatomy ultrasound appointment? Do they look at my baby with the 3d scans and what are they looking for?

It takes a little bit of time because they are checking the baby's whole body to ensure everything is growing correctly: limbs, heart, lungs, etc. They take lots of measurements, and may ask you to get up and do some jumping jacks if baby is not in a good position. My son was hiding his head/face behind my hip bone and we had to do a trans vaginal ultrasound for the last portion (I think, I had some many scans because of some other stuff they all blur together a bit).

They'll also check the umbilical cord for blood flow, listen to the heart, and stuff like that. The measurements are to check growth. It's to make sure everything is going as it should, so that if there is anything abnormal, the doctor can discuss options with you.

My anatomy scan was not 3d

Amniotic fluid, placenta, cord, and cervical length. Look at babys brain, heart, stomach, kidneys, spine, bladder, take measurements of limbs, look for possible birth defects (cleft lip, spina bifida as an examples) and soft markers for genetic issues Ensure baby is at the right stage of development for gestation Can check baby's gender At mine, they found and counted all 10 fingers and toes It can take a while, depending on how your baby cooperates. In canada, I didn't get a 4d. I had to schedule a paid scan for that, but in ireland, the tech gave us a 4d photo of her face.
