That's my understanding too but following in case anyone hears differently!
@Sara thank you! Ahh that's very interesting, I may consider changing my return dates just to squeeze it in slightly before too. All the best x
Changed it to 30/04 and then I’m using some annual leave I had leftover so won’t actually be back until 08/05. I would have had a bit longer had I returned when my little boy is one, but I could not face paying around £1000 a month in nursery fees!! 🤯
No, I thought this was the case but you apply for funding within 31 one days of you returning to work and should still get funding for May onwards
Same as Rachael said, I called them and they told me to apply 31 days before starting work and then they will issue a code to me.
@Rudi it's so confusing. I've looked at the gov website and you do need to return in April to get it from April. I'm going to return 29th and use annual leave to go back later.
Yes annoyingly, I had to do the same thing as @Sara and move my official start date but not going back until May
Yeah so you deffo won’t get funding till September if you go back in May, you can get your code earlier than 31 days before you go back if you phone but then the nursery won’t be able to use the code till the term after so I’m going back March and will have to pay for all of March then get the funding in April 🙃
@Rachael yeah, you are right. I have to go back to work in April, so didn’t think of checking for May month.

Tax-free childcare should come into effect as soon as you apply, you can even backdate it. But yes, there are only 3-4 times a year you can apply for the 15 free hours. Might be worth coming back to work at the end of April…
I had this the other day. Yes if you return in May it will kick in from September unfortunately. I had to change my return to work day to 30/04 so that funding could kick in from 01/04. Hope this helps. X
