Formula feeding

For those who are thinking of formula feeding. How are you taking formula to the hospital if the brand you chose don't have pre made bottles? Reading a lot of information online that hospitals don't have facilities to make bottles up?

Which formula are you looking at using? I would take an alternative just for the time being in the hospital and then go to the one you want at home. Some baby’s don’t take to all formula’s, with my wee boy we started him on Aptamil from day 1 but it didn’t agree with him and we moved to Kendamil when he was 2 weeks old. Ask your midwife next time you see her if the hospital you’ll be giving birth at has any facilities as I have seen some have kitchens where you can make food etc x

@Caitlin thank you I will double check with the midwife. We've not really decided yet on formula. There's so many different ones!

@Emily There are so many to choose from!! I’m hoping to breastfeed this time around but if we have to go to formula then we’ll be choosing Cow & Gate this time around. Looking back I think Kendamil still gave my boy reflux as he was always so sicky and struggled gaining weight so I’m happy to try something else for our second. Keep your options open🥰🥰

Ah we went with the pre-made bottles with sterilised teats but you can use the colostrum syringes the midwife’s have to hand too, most of the main brands do have the pre-made bottles if not babies can be gradually switched over to a different formula without issues 🙂 (we were another kendamil user)

Our hospital provided formula in pre made bottles for our first. We just used a different brand once we got home. They don’t drink a huge amount at first anyway. It’s worth checking if your hospital provides it 🙂

We’re using sma little steps , and I know they have cartons that’s already made up x

I planned to use Mamia formula with my first but they don’t make pre made bottles so just took Cow and Gate and swapped when we got home, the hospital also provided SMA for pre made bottles so she had about 3 different formulas in the first few days but no issues x

I’m breastfeeding again so have never taken formula but definitely check with your trust, mine only allow pre-made formula, you can’t take powder x

I love SMA....I used it for my first baby. I also used Similac a lot and it was really good.

What brand don’t have ready made bottles? It will depend on your hospital as to whether they have facilities to make bottles. Mine don’t, but I know another one nearby that does.
