We’ve had the same, husband is dropping to 4 days a week in office, I will work 5 days compressed into 4 (so as to not drop hours but still have a day off in the week). Baby then in nursery 3 days per week. Currently gets 11hrs funded (10 months old), so effectively one day of nursery is free and we pay for the other two. In September she will get her 22hrs, so will go to nursery 4 days and we will pay for two of them and husband can go back to full hours. Certainly going to feel the final pinch on reduced wages but no family nearby to help and can’t afford for me to not go back to work
I’m just about to move back to London from Hertfordshire as we are in similar position and my family will be helping with childcare. If it wasn’t for my mum having my LB 4 afternoons a week we would be paying a £1.5k nursery bill!!! I’m Doing 5 days over 4 so I will have Fridays off with him. We are paying more in rent but I have help nearby and it is still cheaper than him doing 4 full days by us even with the funded hours. I am now full of fear if I was to lose my job as we would be f**ked. We both have a decent paying job similar to you, but childcare costs push us into financial difficulties it’s crazy
It's awful, we have a 3 year old and a 10month old. Even with the funded hours, the bills are crippling. No family help either so it's all nursery 😐😐😭
Can you work from home or have you family that can help? I'm having to go back full time. I'm going to be working from home 2 to 3 days. Baby in nursery 2 days using the 15 hours it's still like £100 a week. And my mums taking her 1 to 2 days.
No suggestions but in a similar situation here too! I'm hoping to go back 4 days (still in conversations with work) with little one in nursery 3 days and with the 15 hours finding basically we will be only paying 2 days. The fourth day will be my husband or grandparents or Aunt etc on rotation so they each have him once a month. It's not ideal but it's the only way me going back to work was financially doable and we can't afford to live in one salary
