Restricted growth

Hi x I had a growth scan today at 28 weeks. Baby was on the small side at the 21 week scan in December. Although she was on the small side she was still with in the bracket she should have been just at the lower end. At today’s scan she’s now below this bracket and much much smaller than she should be. There are no abnormalities, no indication of downs or any other birth defects from the scan. Blood flow from placenta is working. How ever she’s not getting everything she needs. So her body is prioritising her brain , heart, lungs and her other major organs. So apart from being small in length and weight she’s otherwise healthy. They did offer me an amniocentesis but it holds risks and there are no other indications there’s any chromosomal problems. The plan is another scan at 30 weeks , If she hasn’t grown she will be delivered. If she’s grown and at a good rate they will continue to scan me weekly. The hope is we can get to 34 weeks. I will also have to have a c-section as it’s safer and less traumatic for the baby. It’s not the news we were expecting but I’m glad she is otherwise doing ok. Anyone else been in this position?

I'm kind of in the same situation at the moment. Baby was below the 5th centile at 28 weeks, had a scan yesterday at 30 weeks and still just below the 5th centile. Everything else at the moment looks fine. They e said if she continues to grow at the same rate then I can go to 39 weeks. I'm seeing a consultant weekly and having growth scans fortnightly. If anything. Hashes and the placenta or cord start to not work as well then they will hope to get me to 37 weeks. They have said the chances are she will just be a small baby but they have done bloods to test for toxoplasmosis and cytomegalovirus so have to wait for those results now. X

I have been told my baby is small so having 2 scans per week. I'm at 32 weeks on Friday and they are talking about C section delivery at, possibly 34 weeks. They say restricted blood flow from placenta to baby but baby is growing but not to the level they would normally see.

I hope all goes well for you I think you are making the absolute best decision for your baby opting for a c section!!My son was born at 40+5 on the 0.7th percentile (wasn’t picked up on growth scans). Small baby’s really don’t cope well with Labour…my birth didn’t have a good outcome. It’s so hard but I’m wishing you all the best 🫶🏻🫶🏻

just remember these scans aren’t 100% accurate, i was scheduled for an induction at 38 weeks because baby was ‘massive’ and she was born at 37 weeks weighing 6lbs1.
